Is fabulous scenery, easy conversation, wonderful walks, good craic and hospitality something you enjoy? Well, we have it all for you in Lovely Leitrim and all for a good cause too!

The Holey Soles hill walking club and Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks have been organising this annual event since 2006 and its just wonderful to get the updates on how the money raised is put to great use.

The meeting point for registration and parking for both walks is at the Largy disused quarry, Glenade on the top road; OS Map 16 coordinates: G 82670 45156, GPS coordinates: Latitude 54° 21' 17" N Longitude 8° 16' 00" W  . There will be directional signs on the approach roads on the day. Registration from 10.30am. Hill walk departs 11.00am, ramble 11.15am. Please note, there are no toilet facilities at the start
There will be complimentary refreshments at the W8 Holiday Centre after both walks.

The Hill Walk on Nov 3rd

The starting point for the hill walk is Largy quarry Glenade. There is a 3km road walk with stunning views over Glenade Lake and the Leitrim/Sligo hills. Hill walkers then turn off the road at Largy Wood on the lower side of Glenade Lake. This wonderful ascent is short and sharp and once completed most of the climbing is done, reaching a height of approximately 300 metres. The walk then heads west along the magnificent escarpment overlooking Glenade Lake itself and taking in views of Peek a Dha, Glenade Valley and the Sligo and Donegal coastlines and mountains. Walkers will reach the modest height of approx 400 metres and return along the same route descending again by Largy Wood and returning to the designated car park.

Length of walk; 12 Km. Walking Time: 4 Hours. Break Time: 30 mins. (Times and Distances approx)

The Ramble on Nov 3rd


Meeting at Largy quarry Glenade, walkers take a route on paved roads/paths with stunning views, from an elevated position, of Glenade lake on one side and Largy, Glenade escarpment and Peek a Dha rock on the other side.

Length of walk; 9.5Km Walking Time 2-2.5 hours break time 10 mins (Times and distances approx)

Directions to starting point:


  • Take the R280 from Manorhamilton towards Kinlough, after 9Km  take the L2125 on the left, Glenade Lake Amenity is signed. If coming from Kinlough toward Manorhamilton, after 13Km take a right off the R280 onto the L2125 at the sign for Glenade Lake Amenity, then proceed up 1km, passing the Glenade Lake Facility on your right, 
  • then take a sharp tum Right at top of this road, 
  • proceed for 0.3kms and then car parking is at the Quarry on left, Map co-ordinates;  G 82670 45156 GPS coordinates; Latitude 54° 21' 17" N Longitude 8° 16' 00" W
